Ed Sheeran is an English singer, songwriter and musician. He received a nomination for Song of the Year and Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards and also won the Brit Award for Best British Male Solo Artist and Best British Breakthrough Act.
But before these, even before his then-girlfriend Ellie Goulding cheated on him with one direction's Neil Horan, before he sold millions of records, and before he had a song appear in the second book in the Hobbit trilogy, Ed was just a lad from Halifax.
He left his little hamlet at the age of 14 to explore the great city of London, England. All that he packed was a bag of clothes and a guitar. He began getting gigs as a guitar tech, an opening act for a number of bands, and he began making a ton of EPs. He purchased a one-way ticket to Los Angeles in 2010. He performed at every music event he could secure which would later lead to his meteoric rise to fame.
Without further ado, let's get into the past life of Ed Sheeran prior to fame.
On February 17, 1991, Edward Christopher Sheeran was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England. He also has a younger sibling and an older brother, Matthew, who is a classical composer.
Their parents are of Irish descent and were born in London. His mother Emojin, is a former culture publicist turned jewelry designer, while his father John, is a curator and speaker of art.
From 1990 to 2010, his parents co-owned and operated Sheeran Lock, an independent art consultancy. Now since their jobs usually required them to fly to London, the family enjoyed spending their weekends travelling by car and listening to a lot of music.
When Ed Sheeran was younger, his favorite musicians were The Beatles, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, and, when his parents weren't looking, a little bit of Eminem. And according to Ed, it was Van Morrison's irish heartbeat record that first got him interested in music. He was obviously interested with music, but as a boy, he wanted to be a qualified conductor.
His singing career began in the church choir. At the age of 4, he started teaching himself not only the guitar, but also the cello, the piano, and some bass slapping. When he was younger, he and his father flew to Ireland to see a performance by the musician Damien Rice, who they subsequently met backstage and chatted to, it served as a motivation for Ed to begin writing his own songs. Following this, he quickly found himself enrolled in London's National Youth Theater and Youth Music Theater. At the age of 14, he left for the big city once more in his teens, only carrying his clothes and guitar.
At the age of 14, he started recording his debut EP, "the orange room," which has four songs: "I love you," "addicted," "misery," and "moody ballad of Ed."
He had the appropriate connections at the age of 15. He made acquaintance with Passenger, another English singer-songwriter who is now well-known. He started working on two albums, the first of which was self-titled and was released in 2006. The other was "want some," which was released in 2007. He started out on the road as an opener for more well-known performers like J Sean and Nislovi the Noisettes.
In 2009, he also published another EP called "you need me." That year, Ed performed in as many as 300 stage performances, and when he wasn't on stage, he worked as a guitar tech.
It wasn't until 2010 that edward took the next significant step in his career and it didn't come from his numerous contacts or his many live performances. It came from someone viewing one of his videos online. Rapper Example found a video of Ed on a website known as sbtv and invited sheeran to be the opening act on his tour.
At the same time, Ed released a new EP with the song "the A team," which would lead to a lot of doors opening for him. Following this tour, Ed made the decision to go on a short vacation by himself to consider the next phase of his professional life. He made the choice to travel to sunny Los Angeles. He got there at the age of 19, again with just his guitar and the clothing on his back. Despite not knowing anyone in the area, he set to work and booked as many open mics as possible.
One of th places he performed was the foxhole. And tgere was one of the places, and Jamie Foxx was one of the visitors that evening. Jamie, a performer, noticed Ed's talent and stayed to talk with him after the show. After learning about his current situation of homelessness, Jamie offered him not only a bed but also access to his recording studio while he was in town. As a result, Sheeran produced up to three more EPs before being signed to Asylum Records.
His debut album, "plus," which featured the single "the A team" as its opening track, was well-known. After that, he received nominations and prizes both domestically and abroad. He started writing songs for other artists, including "one direction," and he also grew close to Taylor Swift.
Buh since then, he has released viral hits which includes 2014's "photograph", 2017's album "divide" which is his third album. The album includes singles like "perfect", "shape of you", "castle on a hill" and it won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards. It also be and the number one in the United Kingdom, selling 672,000 copies in its first week, making it the fastest-selling album by a male solo artist there in the UK and the highest opening behind Adele's "25" and "Oasis' Be Here Now".
Well, since this is all about his life before he bacame famous, I'll stop right here.
